A basic herb garden would not be complete without basil. If you are growing an herb garden, get gardening tips here.
Whether you have already begun planning, or you need help getting started, here you will find some tips that will make your outdoor herb garden the joy and pleasure that it should be.
If you have never grown a single thing in your life, growing an herb garden is the perfect way to get started. Most herbs are very easy to grow, not too difficult to maintain and the rewards of being able to smell and taste the results of your labor make all the work truly worthwhile.
Basil is such a beautiful, fragrant, delicious herb that it deserves a place in any basic herb garden. Grow your favorite variety, or a combination of different variety. Heck, you could even create a show-stopping herb garden by only using different varieties of basil!
Creating a Raised Herb Garden
Herbs are easy to plant and can be tucked in anywhere you have some extra space. If you don't have any extra space, or if you have difficult soil for gardening, creating a raised bed herb garden is a great solution that is also easy on your back.
My husband built me a beautiful raised bed garden a few years ago and I love it. My plants are easy to get to without as much stooping, beding or squatting and we were able to fill the raised bed with fresh, nutrient-rich soil instead of having to prepare the thick clay that we have in the ground.
If you are not handy, or don't know anybody who is, you can also purchase a raised bed garden kit, like the one pictured to the right. Just read the reviews and you'll see how easy it is to put these beds together and get started with your gardening.
Selecting Herbs
Really, there is no trick to selecting the herbs that you want to grow. Choose what you like. Choose the herbs that you use most often when you are cooking. It really is that simple.
